okay so it's been a crazy weekend for me. I just got back from a costume party that was fun but I've been trying to get around to posting about the AWESOME switchfoot concert on Thursday.
So many cool things happened at the show. It was absolutely crazy in so many ways. Well I told Brenda about the whole 'We Are One' poster thing that Carl and Andy were doing so of course we made our poster. When we got to the Marquee which was around 6 we make our way to the end of the line. We got there fairly early as it would turn out but Brenda decides to go scope out the front of the line as she carries our poster. Well while I wait in line for her, I look up and see this guy with a video camara filming the crowd. I knew instantly that it was Andy Barron. Then he starts walking in my direction and I stop him and ask him if he would film me and my friend with our poster. He's like where's your poster and I tell him that my friend would be right back she just went to check out the front of the line. He said okay but that he would be back because he wanted to got film the marquee that said who was performing and stuff so he would be right back. Brenda finally comes strolling on back and I tell her that I ran into Andy and that he said he would film us with our poster. So we wait and the guy behind asks us what he it was for. So we tell him how on the daily foot they said to make a poster if you wanted to be in the video switchfoot was making and he thought it was cool. Okay so after a few minutes Andy comes back and tells us to hold still with our poster while he just films us. He basically just takes a few seconds of us with it and then he tells us to hold it up during the last song and to go crazy with it cause he would film us with it. So he takes off and there's nothing for us to do but wait in line. Well we wait and we see these other girls come along with their posters. They are making all this noise but I'm pretty sure that they didn't get filmed because Andy said we would be the last ones he'd film and I never saw him come back out.
Well we finally get inside after the pat down for weapons which of course we didn't have and we make our way down to the floor. we end up standing around the area in front of Tim. After waiting about 20minutes Agustana comes on and finally the show has begun. Augustana's pretty cool. I couldn't make out a word but I liked them and the crowd seems to be into them too. Well they play their share of music which wasn't too long and then comes Eisly which was another story. Eisly comes one and they are a completely different style of music than Augustana. It was just so weird cause the mood in the crowd totally changed. Eveyone was into them but eveyone just seemed to stand there staring glassy-eyed at Eisly. Maybe we just didn't know how to react their music. Well from there it just starts to go bad. okay not bad but from that point on I'm getting really tired from standing. They play about 10 songs and they have yet to play more. After the 10th song they can't decide which song to play next and everyone's getting anoyed including me. about 5 minutes later they pick a song and then after that they play 2 more songs. I started to get really tired of them by now. All their songs started sounding the same and I just wanted to sit down. I like their music and all but I just really wanted to see switchfoot already.
Well now on to Switchfoot. After about 15 minutes of setting up they make us wait another 10 minutes cause the fire alarms start going off. Here's how andy described it in the Daily Foot:
"Right before the show started, the fire alarm went off because our hazer machine was goin crazy and the fire alarm thought that the room was on fire. I got it all on video. Good times."
Yeah well it wasn't 'good times' for us Andy let me just tell ya! We were tired from stand for the past 3 hours and we were all growing restless. We wait a few minutes for the fog to clear and then the lights dim and here comes Switchfoot!!! The crowd goes absolutely crazy. They start off with Lonely Nation and it's a great start to an absolutely amazing concert. The lighting was awesome! Jon's interaction with the crowd was awesome too! The whole time everyone's singing to every song.
There were some moments that really stand out though. Dare You to Move had to be my favorite song of the night. It was such an intimate moment having the crowd sing along with Jon on that one as he started out by himself on the acoustic guitar, then the rest of the band joined him later. I got clips of a few songs including this one but the audio on them are very poor cause we were standing too close to the speakers so it's all distorted. I'm not sure if I'll post them. ...well The Shadow Proves the sunshine was also a crowd favorite. I was so glad to hear that one cause it's my favorite from the new album. Tim did his thing on the drum in the beginning. He beats that thing really loud! They also played The Fatal Wound which is my second favorite song from that album. Everytime jon played the harmonica the crowd went nuts!
So Jon said that he had been writing a song for every city on the tour so I got my camara ready to record it but then my batteries died. I was bummed but it was alright cause Jon didn't have one for us cause he said nothing rhymed with Phoenix or Arizona. oh well... Later Jon introduced the band as he usually does except Chad. He got introduced as Oprah! That was hilarious. Chad just chuckled. ...It was also Radar's birthday that day so Jon brings Radar out. Apparently Radar was filming cause he had the video camara in his hands when he came out. Here's how that happend according to Andy: "The show tonight was awesome, but the highlight was when Jon pulled our merch guy Radar on stage and sung happy birthday to him. I tried to fake sick so that he would have to come up and videotape the show and then Jon would pull him on stage. I don't know if he bought it, but it was fun nonetheless." (here's Andy's picture from the 'Daily Foot') ...well Jon takes the camara from him and keeps filming while he tells us how Radar and him are best friends. then we sing him happy birthday and Jon gives him a big hug. Then Tim comes over and gives him a hug too. Then someone who's on Jerome's side of the stage hands Jon a birthday cake which he gives to Radar but the candles on it weren't lit so Radar pretends to blow them out. The whole time radar had a big smile on his face and he was so happy. It was a cool moment for him and it was cool to see the guys do that for him. ...Well the funniest moment of the night happened during Meant to Live. Eveyone went crazy during that one as usual. It was so rowdy and there were so many crowd surfers. Towards the end of the song where Jon makes the crowd sing 'we were ment to live' over and over again and they all leave one at a time, well he couldn't get the crowd to follow. He had to quiet the crowd down first cause they were so loud. But the reason for all the confusion was because Jon had the crowd sing the chorus by themselves so when it came time to sing just 'we were meant to live' over and over again, the crowd wanted to sing the whole chorus again instead of just singing 'we were meant to live' like jon wanted us to. It was so funny cause Jon was laughing and he was shaking his head like no, no, no and he signaled the band to get quieter so he could show us what he wanted us to do. He sang 'we were meant to live' then he put his hands in the air like wait, pause. Then the crowd finally got it. That was so funny! I bet they thought it was hilarious too! Then they all left one by one leaving drew to play by himself and the crowd cheered the loudest for him. I don't think they cheered louder the whole night than how they did for drew. It was so awesome
Then they encored with Stars and afterwards they played 'We Are One Tonight'. We pulled out our poster and we went nuts like andy told us to. I don't know if Andy filmed us cause I never saw him but we held up our poster. At the end the the guys all came out and they all came to the front as they always do then they left the stage for good. We didn't stay to meet the guys cause we were really tired and we've met them already so we decide to just head home. ...I have yet to develope some pictures I took so I don't have any yet. but here are some that Brenda took
Edit: I took the pictures off of here because it just made the post too large. but click here to see them!! |
